The presidential flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has committed to visiting all 36 states of the federation annually while institutionalizing regular town hall meetings with citizens if elected into office in 2027.
Obi made this declaration during an interactive digital livestream session, underlining that his leadership model would heavily prioritize national unity, decentralized regional growth, and direct public accountability. The former Anambra State governor stressed that every corner of the country must feel a sense of belonging and inclusion, independent of ethnic or geographical boundaries.
“I want to see a thriving South-West, South-South, South-East, North-East, North-West, North-Central, everyone in Nigeria,” Obi stated, warning that weaponizing ethnicity and regional lines only stifles national progress. He added that he intends to spend official breaks across the six geopolitical zones and host monthly or bi-monthly town hall sessions to justify major policy actions directly to the public.

Reiterating his stance against tokenism, Obi urged the electorate to evaluate aspirants strictly based on track record, character, capacity, and competence rather than entitlement metrics like tribal origin or regional turns. “I don’t want people to follow me, vote for me because it’s my turn because I’m an Igbo man. I want a fair competition based on competence,” he emphasized.
Enugu State Govt Dismisses Opposition Tactics Over Airport Fracas
Meanwhile, contrasting political tensions have flared up in Enugu State, where the state government has strongly criticized leadership elements of the NDC for attempting to leverage political sympathy through controversial means.
Addressing a press briefing at the Government House in Enugu, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Chidiebere Onyia, maintained that the peace cultivated by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration over the last three years remains irreversible and non-negotiable.
Onyia addressed the security incidents surrounding the opposition’s activities at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the state party secretariat. He clarified that state authorities had no hand in the altercations, explaining that the airport confrontation occurred because organizers attempted to launch a major statewide campaign event without securing prior clearance from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The government further condemned what it described as theatrical stunts by opposition actors designed to paint the state as hostile and unsafe for political participation ahead of the 2027 polls.
